Playmat quilts.

The last of the fall leaves.  Our walk yesterday, was pleasant.  When the weather is good, we get out and enjoy it.  This morning we woke to rain, wind and low visibility.  The remnants of hurricane Patricia has arrived in our parts this morning, it will effect us for the next 36 hours.  Inclement weather poses risks we hope to avoid.  It reminded me of the people who have no choice to be out in weather like this, all the emergency workers.

Center Panel.

The borders with EMS, Firetrucks and Police vehicles.  When one is in need of these services and have to make use of  them, one realize how blessed we are to have such amazing people in our world.  It takes a special kind of person to do this job!
The stream along the path, has this weir.  Over the summer we have seen it so low, not much water was going over it.  Yesterday we saw this, with the rain today, all that will change.  The trees this morning has lost so many leaves already. The grass is covered in leaves.  All in a manner of a couple of hours.

How far can a Ball of Wool go?...

I started with a ball of wool (aka Bamboo), to knit this Carriage Blanket.  My knitting skills require me to make use of You-Tube, A-Z of knitting, time and a  healthy dose of patience.  On the side of the ball of wool, it indicates how many meters/yards of wool on a ball.  When I decided to do this pattern, I showed it to the lady at the wool shop.  She said you need four balls of wool.  Well looking at the size of the balls of wool, I was not too sure how this was going to work.  The balls looked too small to me...
What a surprise to discover just how far one ball of wool stretched!
A friend made me a pair of socks, they are amazing, not only do they fit perfectly, they keep my feet warm.

Beautiful.  A lot of work goes into making a pair of socks.

Almost nine years ago, I discover German Sock wool, which create all these amazing patterns.  It inspired me to attempt to knit some socks.  With the help of Helen, who guided me through the process, this was the result.
My knitting bag.

Bags and more.

Bags, they come in all shapes and sizes.  We make them, give them away as gifts.  A friend gave me a bag she had made out of squares. It has lots of pockets.  It inspired me to make a couple.  Making it larger, the bag size is determined by the size of the squares.  I played and this is the result. Perfect for a scrapbook and supplies.

A Japanese patchwork magazine also inspired another bag, once I worked out to follow the pictures from the back of the magazine to the front, it was easy.  I cannot read Japanese, but the drawings and photographs with dimensions, was given step by step.  The pattern was very clear and well presented .  The original bag was much smaller,  by increasing the size four times the size in the magazine, the bag I created was big enough for a quilt and my handheld hoop, perfect for quilting.
The inside of the bag.  It is unique and over the years, it is one bag which has been in use full time.

The outside of the bag, it has space to use quilt blocks.  A good way to use orphan blocks or small blocks
printed with pictures on them?.
A small zipper pouch, for the man in your life to keep little knick-knacks together for his hobby.
The perfect bag  for a young girl and teenager., made with denim.  The Embroidery was inspired by a set of stickers, from Germany.  Always make sure you get permission to use any artwork, before you use it.  It is very important to do so.  Also make sure how you are allowed to use the end product.  Mine was used to create this gift.  The stickers was the inspiration to digitize this artwork into an embroidery design.  It is one happy and relaxed bee!
No matter our ages, we all need a bag.  It is one practical item, which holds essentials and some more.

A bag to hold your Mug, a teabag or two, some sugar,  a biscuit or two, into the pockets on the outside of the bag, the mug is protected  in drawstring bag in the center.  Now it is ready, just pop into your bigger bag and you are ready to go.

With the first snowfall predicted for tomorrow, a bit of colour is the perfect way to distract us from the weather.

Fall.

The change of season bring with it the warmer fabrics.  Flannels, soft and fuzzy.  Then there is the wool to knit with.  The quilts to hand quilt, while the leaves drop from the trees, as the weather turns cooler.

The comfort foods we eat, with the seasons, the fruits and vegetables that is locally grown, which we use to create meals for our families.  The bounty of the season.
Found this fabric at the The Hobby Horse, have some chocolate brown binding left from a project.  Will turn these into mug mats or pot holders.  They would work well on aprons as well, on the front of  the bib or pockets, maybe?  Perfect for making gifts.
A purple Bargello,  perfect for the month of October.
Turkeys, roaming free.  When we grew up, they were pets, something even to this day,  remain that way.  These guys can thank their lucky stars, they live in another part of the world!

In the Pink.

Sometimes everything all at once is just the same colour all around us.
On our walk we saw these wild flowers.

Keeping the tools we use protected.  These are made in the hoop.  Designs by Artistic Designs from  Secrets of Embroidery.  The scissor fobs have a very important job, when a pair of scissors fall. They act as a weight and would  hit the ground first.  Thus protecting the scissors.
A Baby Quilt, with a hint of mint green.

Sometimes it is the one colour quilts, which can be a challenge.  Taking a regular pattern, creating a new quilt with one colour.  This pattern appeared in McCall's Quilting magazine a few years back.
Using the different prints in this collection, to create the flowers, leaves and butterflies.
Follow the pattern layout to place each piece in the correct place.
Machine applique with a blanket stitch, was used around each piece.
Next the quilt was quilted, in the ditch.
The completed quilt, with the binding on.  It was sewn with Cure for Cancer fabrics,  for the challenge to raise funds,  to find a cure for cancer.

The end of summer, these pink flowers always give us a burst of colour.  They remind me of black eye Susies, except they are not yellow with the black centers.
